This is the story of the infamous “Studio 54”. The movie focuses on a young teen named Shane (Ryan Phillipe) who wants to get inside the club to party down with the rich and famous. Eventually he gets a job at the club and makes his way up to being a bartender. Mike Meyers plays Steve Rubell the man in charge (and a co-owner of the club) and does a very wonderful job. You get to see what happened in the club: lots of sex, drugs and disco. The movie also stars Neve Campbell and Salma Hayek.

The video is presented in 1.85:1 widescreen and is not 16x9 enhanced. This is a quite good transfer from Buena Vista. Black levels and colors seem dead on. The image is sharp with no signs of compression problems and very little grain.

The audio is presented in 5.1 and does just fine. Dialogue seems very clear and the disco scenes are quite good, but they could have used the LFE and surrounds a bit more.

Overall, this is an entertaining movie with some good acting by Meyers. Many critics say that you will only get a glimpse of what it was like inside 54, but what you do see might shock you. The disc also contains the music video “If You Could Read My Mind”. The movie is rated R and runs 93 minutes.
