BODY SNATCHERS

Where ya gonna go? Where ya gonna hide? No where…

In 1993 the classic story of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” was retold in a more modern manner. Marti Malone (Gabrielle Anwar) has gone with her family to a military complex for the summer while her father performs some tests for the EPA.

Before even getting to the complex, Marti runs into a crazed solider at a gas station that scares the hell out of her. After a bit of adjustment, movie watchers see that something is wrong with the people on the base. The kids are sharing the same imagination while the adults show no emotions. It is learned that an alien species is slowly taking over the entire base by duplicating the people and replacing them.

Gabrielle Anwar (see her in Wild Heart Can’t Be Broken) does a good job as a teen trying to figure everything out. Also in the movie is a younger Forest Whitaker (Phenomenon) and Meg Tilly.

The video is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen and is 16x9 enhanced. A pan & scan version is also included. The image is pretty much clear throughout the film. Darks are well done, but sometimes the colors are over saturated.

The audio is presented in 2.0 English and French. A 5.1 remix would have been a great improvement (especially at the end of the film), but the 2.0 soundtrack does ok on its own. Dialogue seems very clear but the disc does not have a lot of surround effects and no LFE. Studios should realize that a 2.1 track is much better than 2.0.

The movie is somewhat entertaining. If you like Gabrielle Anwar, then you don’t want to miss this movie. Body Snatchers is rated R for nudity, violence and language (and underage drinking) and runs 87 minutes.
