The Legend of Headless Horseman comes to life in Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. Tim Burton has numerous films under his belt including Beetle Juice, Batman and Edward Scissorhands. His ability to combine the horrifying with a bit of laughter and just his overall ability to surround you in lush scenes is un-matched! This time he combines several great actors including Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci in his depiction of the tale of the headless horseman. Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane and what a job he does. Johnny makes for a very believable and likable Ichabod that is kind of wet behind the ears. He has been sent to find out who or what has caused three beheadings in the little town of Sleepy Hollow. He finds out more then just who has been behind these murders. This movies although rather scary is a clean movie which the whole family can enjoy, but be warned the younger viewers might be spending the night in Mommy or Daddy’s bed that night!
The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen at its original theatrical ratio of 1.85:1. The video is by no mean vibrant. This of course is the way Jim Burton wanted it. A darker, gloomier look is what adds to the erieness of the film. The video is very clear and the colors are accurate while not the best available on DVD, it is nonetheless very good.
The audio is excellent. You be looking around the room waiting for the horseman to pop out of a wall as you are immersed in a full Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. The soundtrack is crystal clear and quickly pulls you into the fantasy world of Sleepy Hollow.
The extras are nice too. You are treated to 2 theatrical trailers, a photo gallery, Director Commentary, Cast Bio’s, and an excellent behind the legend featurette. Overall a great movie that will grab you and entertain you for the full hour and forty-five minutes. You can pick this one up for under $20 and with it being a Tim Burton film and the performance that Johnny Depp provides makes this one a must get.
